Began using this food for my working sled dogs back in the last century since I became acquainted through the former manufacturer's veterinary nutritionist who always provided great support.
Even though the company has changed hands I subscribe to the belief, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Everything about this food should be great according to what I read about it.
Unfortunately neither one of my dogs will eat it! I have to add other stuff in order for them to eat. Going back to previous food they gobbled down. I was trying to give them variety. After being on Eagle Pack Power Adult for nearly a year I am having to go back to a much higher protein dog food.
I so wanted to love Eagle Pack for its price point and all the glowing reviews… However, it is not working for my adult Appenzeller. Since being on Eagle Pack he has put on weight despite being restless and always hungry.
I used this with previous dogs with great results. Their coat shines and muscle show. The dogs seem to like it and have no stomach problems. I don't really have any issues with this product but I guess I hold out on the 5th star until my boy has been eating it longer and we see how things go. It's been about 8 months on this food and I'm quite happy. He's 3 and pretty active: very playful, weekly hikes, daily walks And he's picky.
Tends to want to eat more at night than in the morning and sometimes if my parents have him he doesn't eat as well. So I really like the higher calories in this food to help him keep his weight up as he's a lean fellow. He was eating chicken his whole life and my other dog eats chicken so I choose to stick with this protein and I have had no issues. My other dog who has been picky I don't really have any issues with this product but I guess I hold out on the 5th star until my boy has been eating it longer and we see how things go.
My other dog who has been picky her whole life seems to love this food as well when she sneaks a bite. Very happy so far! My 2 whippets did well with this food and it is a good price for how much you get.
The ingredients seem good as well. However, one of the whippets got bored with eating it, so weare using a different food right now but will keep this in the rotation and maybe dress it up a little with some "gravy". Great solid poops, high protein for big dogs, or active dogs. Wish this was a bit of a bigger kibble though.
I will buy again. My four shepherds had a hard time with this brand and I tried several. Why Autoship? In stock. Add to Cart. Alert Designates an important message. Chicken Fat is an excellent choice for this as it is low-cost and easy to source. Tomato Pomace is one of the most common minor ingredients in dog food.
It is used as it is an easily sourceable and low-priced source of soluble fiber. Fiber can be important for dogs to ensure they have regular digestion and stools. It is added because it is an excellent plant-based source of the Omega 3 Fatty Acids. At this time, we have no information on what type of animal testing, if any, that Eagle Pack participates in.
Many pet food brands avoid disclosing information about their animal testing regimes for fear of customer backlash. We strongly believe that laboratory and invasive testing of animals is a cruel and outdated practice and one which should be eliminated.
However, there have been recalls of products that were produced by their manufacturing partner, Diamond. This includes the recall of Taste of the Wild recipes, which you can read about here. As we mentioned earlier, the nutrition provided by many Eagle Pack recipes varies but one of their best recipes is the above Power Adult.
This nutritional profile would be suitable for the majority of dogs, especially those who are more active. This nutrition is thanks to a large portion of Chicken Meal and Pork Meal. These two meat meal ingredients are dense sources of nutrition as they have already had their moisture removed. The recipe then uses a mix of Brown Rice, Peas, and Barley to provide a modest proportion of carbohydrates and sufficient dietary fiber.
Many dogs really enjoy wet dog food, and while it is far less cost-effective than dry dog food, it is worth consideration. Eagle Pack only has a small range of wet dog food, but the above Lamb formula caught our eye as Lamb is a less common pet food ingredient.
Lamb tends to contain a higher proportion of fat than leaner meat cuts like Chicken and Turkey, which can make it extremely appealing to dogs. As you would guess, Lamb is the primary ingredient, but there is also a portion of Lamb Liver. Organ meat, such as Liver, is an excellent addition and can provide vitamins and minerals that are not abundant in traditional meat cuts.
Lastly, the recipe uses a small portion of Brown Rice, Carrots, and Barley to provide a modest proportion of carbohydrates and fiber. Eagle Pack does not produce any breed-specific recipes like some of the larger brands do. Cat Food At this time, Eagle Pack does not produce any cat food recipes. It is not clear why Eagle Pack discontinued this range of cat food recipes.
